Dr. Timothy Johnson was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, grew up in Tennessee and spent 25 years in southern Wisconsin near Madison. He has lived in San Antonio for the last 4 years. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and then went on to obtain his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1993. He completed a small animal internship in Akron, Ohio. After completing his internship, he spent three years in private clinical practice in Wisconsin. From 1997 to 2000 he worked in the veterinary industry providing technical services and clinical support for critical care patient monitoring devices and point of care blood analyzers with Heska Corporation in Waukesha, Wisconsin/Fort Collins, Colorado and Scil Animal Care Company in Grayslake, Illinois.
Dr. Johnson returned to private clinical practice in 2000 as a staff emergency clinician for Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center (WVRC) in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He remained at WVRC until 2019 as a senior clinician, director of the blood donor program, and mentor to many internship classes. From 2019 through 2020 he was at Madison Veterinary Specialists in Madison, Wisconsin as the Director of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Johnson has been at MissionVet since October of 2020 as Director of Emergency Medicine. He enjoys all aspects of emergency medicine, but is especially interested in trauma medicine, metabolic emergencies and mentoring new veterinarians. Outside of work he enjoys golfing, hiking, going to the beach and spending time with his fiancé, Jodi, and their two dogs. He has 23-year-old twins who are in graduate school in North Dakota and New York.
